It was a spectacular sight to behold yesterday when the Member of Parliament for the Akuapem North Constituency, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei who doubles as the Deputy Information Minister announced the introduction of the MP’s Special Awards at the 33rd Farmers Day celebration held at Saforo, a farming community within the Akuapem North Municipality.

The announcement of the introduction of the award package by the assertive MP was instantly and spontaneously greeted with a rousing welcome amidst wild celebrations. Farmers present at the ceremony joyfully moved from their seats, ecstatically ran to the direction of their MP just to thank her on behalf of the award winners for her vision and commitment to seeing to the development and welfare of the farmers in her constituency.

The MP’s Award, which is a novelty and the first of it kind to be instituted by a Member of Parliament is aimed at motivating and inspiring farmers most especially women participation and involvement in commercial farming.

Presenting the awards which included two tricycles locally known as ‘aboboyaa’ to the Best Farmer and Best Female Farmer, Hon. Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei urged the farmers in the Akuapem North Municipality and Ghana as a whole to continue working hard since their profession remains an important aspect in the life of every individual and every facet of human endeavor.

The award winners were grateful to their MP for the initiative and they pledged to work very hard and make judicious use of the tricycles they have been given and thanked Nana Ama Dokua for his vision and commitment in supporting the development of Agriculture and the welfare of Farmers in her constituency.

It is expected that, other Members of Parliament and other well-meaning Ghanaians will replicate this special initiative orchestrated by Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei to serve as a morale booster and motivation for the Ghanaian farmer.

In attendance at the ceremony were Hon. Dan Kweku Botwe; MP for Okere and Minister of Regional Reorganization & Development, Hon. Dennis Aboagye Edward; MCE for Akuapem North Municipal Assembly, Osabarima Nana Ansah Sasraku III; Chief of Mamfe and Okuapemman Kyidomhene and other important invited dignitaries.
