Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bantama constituency, Honourable Daniel Okyem Aboagye has said those pushing Deputy Chief of Staff Francis Asenso-Boakye to contest him may be miscalculating and misleading him as the young man is not yet “ripe” for Bantama politics.
According to the NPP MP for one of the most powerful NPP strongholds, even though Mr Asenso-Boakye has told him he has no interest in the Bantama seat, some people are pushing him to run, saying he knows the young man well enough.
“I know Asenso-Boakye very well, some of us taught him to become who he is today; he is a senior in government but when he comes to this constituency, he is a small boy”, Hon Okyem Aboakye told a gathering.
The gathering comprised Assembly Members in the Bantama Sub-Metro in Kumasi..
Hon Daniel Okyem Aboagye was an invited guest at the ceremony to hand over some 200 units of street light bulbs donated to the Bantama Sub-Metro by the same Mr Asenso-Boakye.
Asenso-Boakye made the donation after an appeal to him by all the eight assemblymen in the Bantama Constituency, to help them solve darkness at night in the area.
Honourable Okyem Aboagye said Bantama MPs deserve a better treatment given how much they contribute in terms of votes to the NPP, but that is not the case, as they are neglected.
“Bantama MPs cannot always be back-benchers, though we contribute some of the largest chunks of votes for the NPP at every election; our MPS, like the NPP government, need at least 20 years at the job in order to bring about the massive development we all hope for”, he said.
Again, speaking on Asenso-Boakye, he warned:
“You are the same people who are calling on him to come and contest me, otherwise he has no such plans”.
“I will have no problems handing over to him, though he is not ripe yet for the seat”.
Hon Okyem Aboagye added: “I have spoken with Asenso and he says he has no plans of coming”.
